Vickie Liu bakes cute donuts and cookies that are famous on Instagram. She has thousands of followers liking her delicious creations.
Back in the days, when she was a student of Architecture and Interior Design, she started a side project on Instagram. She didn’t know then that posting photos of her cute cookies and donuts, baked in her kitchen in Melbourne, Australia, will bring her a huge online success. Flash forward, in 2018, she was a finalist at the Shorty Awards “Instagrammer of the Year“. Nowadays, Vickie Liu is taking personalized customer orders via email and also selling her art creations at local farmers’ markets and bakeries in Australia.
Vickie likes to surprise her Instagram followers with new ideas. She bakes cookies with characters from Japanese Ghibli movies such as My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle. Her cookies include characters from Disney, Harry Potter and Star Wars. In addition, she bakes donuts with colorful kawaii animals such as pandas, koalas, froggies and piglets.
Her colorful desserts are inspired by Japanese pop culture, especially the Kawaii trends with cute animals such as the Pusheen cat and Rilakkumma bear.
“Food is very relatable, which gives it the ability to bring people together. I’ve basically just used food as a medium to create (edible) art, and throw in bits and pieces of my personality.
Vickie succeeds to reinvent cookies starting from popular foods like tacos, pizza, ramen, dim sum, fried egg and avocado on toast. She photographs her delicious art using a Samsung phone and using natural lighting.
